Rules of manuscript design

Dear colleagues!

We present to your attention the requirements for the design of materials for the journal “Kazakhstan archeology”. Articles are accepted in Kazakh, Russian and English. Each article is provided with annotations and keywords in the language of the main text, as well as in Russian and English if the language of submission is Kazakh and, respectively, in Kazakh and English for the text in Russian and in Kazakh and Russian for the materials in English. Information on authors is also provided in three languages. The article is provided with a list of literature and References, which specifies the name of publications in Latin. The English translation of the title is indicated in parentheses.

Articles must be original, and previously published material cannot be repeated. Illustrations should be qualitative, with good resolution (at least 300 dpi). Please read the text and illustration instructions below.

The journal assumes the following sections: “Research and Publications”; “Discussions”; “Criticism and bibliography”; “Chronicle”.

Technical characteristics of the publication: format 70×108 1/16; full-color; chalk overlay paper; soft cover.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject material issued with irregularities.

The volume of the text is:

For the section “Research and Publications” – 15–40 thousand characters (with spaces), including tables, list of literature, sub-figure captions and annotations. The article should include no more than 8–10 illustrations.

For the section “Discussions”. 5–15 thousand signs. No more than 5–8 illustrations are attached to the article.

For the section “Criticism and bibliography” – 15–20 thousand signs and 1 illustration. When compiling a bibliography of the works of a scientist, only the main, most significant works should be specified (not more than 20–25 works).

For the section “Chronicle” – not more than 15 thousand characters and 2–3 illustrations.

Bibliographic references to literature and sources in the text are given in square brackets: the name of the author without initials (except for the works of namesakes) or a shorten name (if the publication does not have an author), the year of publication by comma; link to page, figure, etc. [Margulan, 1948, p. 3; Akishev K.А., 1978; Akishev K.А., Akishev А.K., 1997, p. 35].

References to the figures are given in parentheses, the item position in the figure is indicated in italics: (fig. 1, 2; 2, 1). The size of figures or tables should not exceed 1/3 of the article.

Do not: tab; mark words with a spacing (between words, there must be only one space between characters); separate paragraphs with an empty line; use commands that run in automatic mode (insert footnotes on literature, hyperlinks and notes, mark and number paragraphs, etc.); use macros, save text as a template, and set to read-only; format text and force hyphenation. The specified units of measure shall correspond to SI system.

The list of literature is compiled in alphabetical order (surname and initials of the author, title of the work, place, publishing house, year of publication, pages) in the original language. First in Cyrillic, then in Latin (English, German, French, etc.). The bibliographic list should not be made too long (not more than 50), references to the author’s own works (authors) should be not more than 25%. At the end of the article, you must specify a list of accepted abbreviations.

Text and Illustration Design Guide

The author’s text must be typed and sent in Word format. Save the Word files with the extension (type) *. docWord 97-2003 (*. docxWord 2007-2010 must be resaved without the last letter “x”).

If the tables are created in Excel 2007 or 2010, you can also transfer them to an earlier version of Excel 97-2003 (that is, resave the * .xlsx file without the last letter “x” – * .xls).

In Word there is an opportunity to place the text in separate frames (framework). For example, to designate an inset. Please don not use them. When you fill text in the layout program, these frames disappear. Recovery is possible, but it takes time. The main thing is to make highlight of the text necessary to you in the manuscript (italics, bold, italics bold), clear breakdown on sections, hierarchy of headings, epigraphs, additional texts, lists, insets to specify places for illustrations.

If color coding is required, change the color of the text itself (font), do not “lift” it with a marker. Type tables without shading of rows.

Hyphenation is made by the layout program, for the text typed in Word there is no need for hyphenation.

Start the new paragraph only with the Enter key. Please trace the number of spaces between the words. There should be no more than one.

Image files are sent separately (the name or file number corresponds to the caption of the illustration in the text). It is necessary to specify in the text the place where they should be located and necessarily their dimensions (for example, on the whole page, on 1/2 or 1/3 pages, etc.).

* .Png or * .gif files are low-quality web formats and are too small to print. They are used on web pages.

What is included in the standard screen image preparation:

Resolution 260–300 ppi (bitmap – 600/1200 ppi)

Dimensions H×W mm as in the final layout

Color model cmyk/grayscale/bitmap

Contours ‘path’; alpha-channels must be removed.

Color depth 8 bit. When saving, the color profile is not enabled. The resulting file format is tif, all layers are flattened (flatten).
